The Fifty Ball Flush Test is done to evaluate how efficiently a toilet's flushing system can clear multiple small solid objects from the bowl. This test simulates real-world conditions where a toilet needs to clear waste consistently over repeated flushes without clogging or leaving material behind.

Test Ball Specifications

• Quantity: 50 balls per flush cycle

• Material: Non-absorbent plastic

• Diameter: 20 mm

• Weight: 3.7 grams per ball

Test Procedure

1. Place all 50 plastic balls into the toilet bowl.

2. Flush the toilet and count how many balls are successfully cleared.

3. Repeat this process for a total of 5 flushing cycles.

4. Record the number of balls cleared in each cycle.

Acceptance Criteria

At least 85% of the balls must be successfully flushed out across the 5 trials. This means out of 250 total balls tested (50 balls x 5 cycles), a minimum of 213 balls should be cleared. If the toilet fails to meet this threshold, it indicates a problem with the flushing efficiency and the product should not be passed for dispatch.

Why This Test Matters

A single flush test alone does not give a full picture of a toilet's performance. By testing over 5 repeated flush cycles with 50 balls each time, this test reveals whether the toilet can deliver consistent flushing performance — which is what matters most in actual daily use. Poor performance here leads to blockages, incomplete flushing, and customer complaints in the field.
